The new rage in internet marketing is social bookmarking. Social bookmarking is one of the flagships of Web 2.0. Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata. They are sites are a wonderful way to promote web sites, blogs, and affiliate marketing programs–if you go about it the right way.

Some of the more popular sites are; Myspace, Facebook, del.icio.us, Digg and StumbleUpon. There are litterialy thousands of sites in different languages and subjects. The basic concept behind social bookmarking is that when thousands of people get together, bookmark their favorite pages, and apply descriptive tags to each page that they bookmark, certain websites will rise to the top as being more popular.

Social bookmarking is already becoming a very effective way for experienced web surfers to find the latest information on a particular subject. Granted, social bookmarking will never replace search engines completely, but as it grows over time in popularity, web users are quickly discovering a whole new way to discover web pages that they would never discover otherwise.
