Renovating Vs Moving Your Residence

Bookmark and Share

Your first reaction on entering your new home is usually one of contentment that you have all that you asked for. But over the years your requirements change, and this could be either due to newly acquired preferences or a sudden change in circumstances. Regardless of what the cause is, but after some time you would wish you lived in a different place altogether. So the solution to such a situation could be either by moving into a new residence or to renovate your old residence.

You must begin by doing some groundwork. If you take some time out to figure out your actual needs, taking major decisions will become a lot easier. First, list out the difficulties with your present house. You need to deliberate upon if your difficulty is a serious one like problems with commuting to your office or a dangerous neighbourhood and you have to move because of that or if it is a problem that can be solved with relative ease through refurbishing of your home like putting new doors or new wiring that can be done without moving house.

You must also think about the expenses of both alternatives before making your decision. Renovation may be less expensive but will involve a lot of groundwork in locating the areas for alteration, the specifics of what you need renovated, and finding and dealing with different vendors like carpenters, plumbers, cable guys etc. You should not lose sight of the fact that any type of renovation will also involve a lot of dust and persistent noise.

Shifting, in contrast, might involve a lot of expenses including those of incremental rents for the new home, fee for the real estate agent, and cost of shifting. Besides, shifting will cause disturbance in your way of living for a while.

Once you clearly understand the pros and cons of both the options, you will find it much easier to take the decision.
